all skin and bone….
January 31, 2009Bobby Julich writes some intelligent words over on Cyclingnews.com today, all about the unnatural and at times unhealthy obsession with body weight in the pro peloton. I know from first hand experience it’s not just the pros that suffer from such an obsession, in my case it was a combo of competitive pressure on the bike, a childhood of being bullied through school (thanks to being a pudgy asthmatic) and then a cycle of depression as a result of stress at work and the impact that had on my ability to perform on the bike… looking back I feel twinges of embarassment but it’s not an unusual story. These days I’m heavier… a whopping (!) 68kg (short-arse 5ft 9 :o) but heaps stronger, heaps happier as a result and I no longer feel the cold! So, worth a read and even if you don’t have a problem it might make it easier to understand why someone else does! Best stick to Northwave’s “skeleton” cycling wear I think if you want to look really really lean on the bike…
here’s a pic from my archives, I was quite lean back then, and I’ve still got that top hat in a cupboard somewhere….

it’s breakfast time as I write… MMmmmm muffins :o)
